Dear Subscriber,

As I write this, Joanne and I just found out that we are grandparents for the first time. Pretty exciting stuff. A new chapter for us, and I feel like I'm a bit older and being a grandfather has already made me feel a bit wiser. I may have to consider upping by speaking consulting fees :-)

We had an amazing seminar last week, with a CGIB first. We had a standing ovation for our first speaker. Hilary is a friend of my son (and us) and she shared her story about living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), and the amazing new treatments that took her like expectancy from 20 to 24 to approx. 50 or even 70 years old. It was moving to say the least, but also a great lesson to benefit consultants that there are people behind those high cost drugs we routinely discuss.

We are setting up the 2024/25 schedule in the coming month or so. I am hoping to hold full-day seminars in Toronto and Vancouver. Halifax and Calgary will likely be full day workshops, better set up for the smaller groups.

This is my test of who reads this newsletter.  If you read this far, please drop me seminar and/or speaker topic or ideas on SLACK (new channel #cgib-semianr-topics). I think Halifax (and maybe Calgary) will start with a Plan Admin Checklist workshop, as we haven't done them out there recently. Beyond that, let me know what you'd like to see (that fit the CE criteria).

Can NOT include: Sales techniques, including motivation, marketing and promotion, consumer psychology or telephone best practices, Health, stress management or exercise courses, Recruiting, Office skills, such as computer training, Management training, Training on company-specific products

We had great feedback about Brad's talk on Client Leadership. Though a deeper dive into the sales side of things would not involved CE credits (see banned topics above), I think many could benefit from this. If that is you, let us know.

Your sharing and contributions is what makes CGIB great. That includes your interaction at the seminars and workshops, posts and answers on SLACK, and with help like this. POST SOMETHING---- PLEASE

Have a great day.

Dave

SETH GODIN'S BLOG -  Three things about innovation

New approaches will never be embraced by everyone at first. If you need unanimous consent, you’re not going to move forward.

And it’s not convenient. If it were, someone would have done it already.

Finally, it’s not sure to work.

If you need any or all three of these things for your project to move forward, you probably should pick a different project.

Put another way... For almost 20 years I've said to advisors that they can sell without the focus on being the lowest price. Adding value and educating clients creates better, and longer, relationships, but it takes an investment in time, not everyone agrees, and many think it's too hard, or might not work. Maybe, but in my case I have not made a cold call in nearly 20 years. Try something new. You never know.
