Dear Subscriber,

We're done the first quarter of the year and seem to be running full speed into the next. As a result, I think we should shut down CGIB for the next 3 months to offer everyone a chance to recover, relax and recharge.

I'll be shutting down slack, my e-mail, and send all calls to my voicemail and hope you do the same. Heck you've worked hard enough, it's time for a break.

I will reluctantly continue with my previous commitments such as the May and June events in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, but please know that I am not the least bit happy about it.

Oh, by the way. Did you check the date? April fools...

Keep doing great things...

Dave
Seth Godin's Blog (and how I think it pertains to Employee Benefits)

The only reason we need to go into detail about our resume, the details of our new idea or the features of a product is to cause action to happen.

And action is the result of tension, status or affiliation, and these are based on trust.

There are many ways to build that trust, and an instruction manual, a powerpoint deck and a set of bullets aren’t the only ones.

Put another way... Know your value. Become good at expressing and communicating it. Being a storyteller helps.

Want a quick way to build trust? Tell a prospect that what they have is actually pretty good. You just changed the conversation from a sales pitch to one of providing advice, a partnership indicating not everything needs to be a sale. That said, maybe you can...reduce their liability, suggest a better employee cost sharing, a new plan design or other options to consider...add your value!

Learning is about becoming incompetent on our way to getting better.

If you’re not open to the tension that is caused by knowing you could do better, it’s unlikely you’re willing to do the work to get better. As you’re doing that work, there’s the satisfaction it brings, but also the knowledge that just a moment ago, you weren’t any good.

Put another way... The learning starts as soon as we say (out loud or to ourselves) that we don't know everything. CGIB is about making everyone better, but are you okay to stand up and say I don't know?
If not, get there, and quick, as that's where the learning starts.
