Dave Patriarche founded Mainstay Insurance Brokerage in 1996 as a one-person shop specializing in providing employee benefits to small and mid-sized businesses in the Greater Toronto Area.

Dave is a strong believer in continuing education and recognized the need for the group insurance industry to broaden its efforts in this area. In 2003 he started a small networking group, which evolved into regular breakfast meetings across the GTA, then into regular educational seminars beginning in 2009.

Dave is recognized as a leader in the group benefits industry, an accomplished speaker at industry events and a contributor to various industry publications. He mentors and acts as an informal resource to benefit brokers, participates in industry think tank groups as well as panels such as; the Benefits Advisors’ Drug Plan Outlook, the Canadian Leadership Council on Drug Plan Partnerships.

Dave spends his spare time with his family and also enjoys taking groups sailing on Lake Ontario, the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas and has even crossed the Atlantic ocean in 2019.

Derrek began his professional career in the employee benefits industry in 1992, developing his expertise at one of Canada’s largest providers of employee benefits programs – Manulife Financial. Derrek leverages his unique understanding of the inner workings of an insurance company to provide our clients with valuable insights to ensure their employee benefits programs receive maximum value. Over this time, Derrek developed his knowledge of underwriting and risk management by providing advice and plan management to businesses of all sizes (employers from 2 to 2,000 employees) across every industry sector.

In addition, Derrek led the small and mid-size consulting practice at Morneau Shepell, a major national human resource consulting firm. As a result of his direct involvement in the design and delivery of employee benefits programs, Derrek has a unique perspective into the employee experience with these plans and the underlying cost drivers. Derrek’s passion is partnering with Business Owners, Financial Professionals and Human Resource personnel to reduce costs, increase employee productivity and improve their competitive position by supporting their employee’s financial security, health and well-being. He will assess your business and employee needs, create an action plan and motivate you to enhance your employee benefits offering with innovative and professional advice.

Cameron Wardell is a partner at Mathews, Dinsdale & Clark LLP, where he practices labour and employment law. While focusing on litigation, Cam has assisted employers with a wide range of other matters, including the preparation of employment contracts and employment policies, collective bargaining and dispute resolution before labour, employment, human rights and other administrative tribunals. Cam has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as various administrative tribunals and the Federal Court.

Cam is one of the editors of CanLii’s new BC Litigation Practice Manual. Cam is also a past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch Civil Litigation (Vancouver) Section, as well as the Employment Law Section.

Cam’s legal education included a co-op term working in labour law, as well as a term studying at St. Peter’s College in Oxford. After law school, Cam was a judicial law clerk at the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Vancouver.
