Dear Subscriber,

I'm back safe and sound from our adventure in Vietnam and Cambodia and it was another trip of a lifetime. A solid educational experience that makes me glad for all we have in Canada, but also an eye opener. These 2 countries have overcome cataclysmic events in the past 50 years (Vietnam War and the Cambodia Genocide) where about 2 million people were killed and they have recovered so much in that time.

Imagine killing all the teachers, like Cambodia did, then starting over and hitting about an 80% literacy rate, or the 95% literacy rate that Vietnam now has (Canada is 99%). The development is amazing.

I know this is no related directly to benefits, and our health system has lots to improve (and we need to), but still, it works pretty well. Thankfully.

We are sending out invites for the next CGIB workshop today, and it's already half sold out, so book your spot (or your staff's) ASAP. Ask us for a discount code for support staff non-members/associates to come at member rates.

Keep doing great things.

Dave

Upcoming CGIB Events:

We've had some of the newer and a few longer term members ask for a repeat of the "Building and Using a Plan Administration CheckList" workshop. Some are looking to up their game, as a refresher, or for their support staff and others in their firms.

  • This seminar is a must for those who specialize in employee benefits or that want to. Hundreds of brokers have attended this seminar with many making it an integral part of their business practice.
  • We will help you create a checklist to utilize when you install new cases, train new plan administrators and conduct client renewals.
  • Information reviewed will include: taxation, privacy, administration, HR issues and other items that will help reduce both broker and client liability.
  • The content will assist you in adding more value to your client relationships and to move the discussion away from price to one of added value.
I guarantee that you will learn things to help attract new clients, maintain existing relationships and improve your practice.

REGISTRATION OPEN AND ALREADY 50% SOLD OUT

Plans Benefit From CDIPC Coverage

The Canadian Drug Insurance Pooling Corporation's (CDIPC) high-cost drug framework provided coverage to almost 13,800 Canadian employers and over 27,700 individuals and families whose annual drug costs exceeded $10,000 in 2021. Collectively, individuals and families benefiting from high-cost drugs represented only 1.6 per cent of insured persons, but 37 per cent of all drugs paid. Its analysis of data from its member insurance companies for 2017 to 2021 showed 21 per cent of high-cost drug claim expenses paid were associated with new drugs for persons suffering from so-called orphan or rare diseases. CDIPC's pooling framework ensures that employers are shielded from direct premium increases resulting from an employee claiming a high-cost or rare disease drug treatment.

SETH GODIN'S BLOG -  Generous and selfish

We’re often reminded that the best way to get what we want is to help other people get what they want.

That opening the door for others makes it more likely that others will open the door for us.

What makes it odd is the implication that if we don’t get, it’s hardly worth giving.

But what if we separated the two and simply chose generosity because we could?

It turns out that happy people are more likely to be generous. (Which implies that generous people are more likely to be happy). Not because they get something measurable in return, but simply because abundance is a choice. And making choices celebrates our agency and potential.

What an opportunity to bring justice and care and dignity to the people around us.

My Take on Seths Post

Put another way...This is what CGIB is all about. Giving to others without the need to get something in return. You make that happen every day in Slack, the support of others, and all you do. Keep it up.

Join us as we review the annual changes to these government plans and explore how you can grow your business and provide your clients greater financial security by tapping into the expanding living benefits market.
